Pomeroy Monument Dedication
April 12, 2008

The Pomeroy monument was donated by the Pomeroy Family Foundation and marks the site where General Pomeroy, hero of Bunker Hill, is buried in an unmarked grave.  General Pomeroy died of a lung disease while visiting the Continental Army in Peekskill in 1777.  The town of Cortlandt held a dedication ceremony which started with a parade down Oregon Road.  The parade included reenactors from the 5th New York (including Mr. K history professor from Lakeland High School), Troop 45 from Van Cortlandtville, a few of us from Troop 174 and members of the Historical Societies of Peekskill and the Town of Cortlandt.  The parade marched under a huge flag on loan from the Bear Mountain Bridge Flag which was hung from two fire trucks across Oregon Road.
