Hudson Valley Orienteering
May 7, 2005

.

As part of a requirement for the Orienteering Merit Badge the Scorpion Patrol took part in an orienteering meet at Clear Lake on Saturday May 7, 2005. The meet was organized by Hudson Valley Orienteering and was open to the general public. The three teams from the Scorpion patrol did very well considering that for most of them it was their first try at an official orienteering course. They were competing against school groups, other scout groups and a large contigent of ROTC troops. The teams navigated their way around the White Course (1.95km, 10 controls).

The results for this course were:

1st      Mack C. and Will W. (19:06)
2nd     Mike P., Anthony S. and Nick S. (21:35)
4th      Roderick K. and Pat C. (34:53)

3rd place was taken by fellow scout and Will W.'s cousin Bryant W.
Mack C. reported that he could have done better but was slowed down by a fig-newton cramp.

Merit Badge Instructor ASM Rob B. competed on the Green Course (4km, 12 controls) and took third place with a time of 79:30.

Thanks to Mr. and Mrs. K. and Uncle Mike for transportation and adult supervision.

Any other patrols, scouts or parents interesting in learning more about orienteering please contact Rob B.
